Gillingham forward Myles Weston happy to sacrifice goals for League 2 title

by Luke Cawdell
Danny Kedwell and Deon Burton lead the scoring charts at
Gillingham, but fellow striker Myles Weston insists only one thing
matters.
The seven-goal forward, pictured, whose corner led to
Gillingham’s winner at Chesterfield on Saturday, is determined to
help the club clinch the League 2 title and doesn’t care who ends
the season as top scorer.
He said: “We have a bit of banter about it but we are happy for
whoever scores. We all want to score 20 goals a season but
realistically that is not going to happen. I am happy whoever
scores because it’s all for the team.”
The Gills have been in a battle for top spot with Port Vale for
most of the season and Weston isn’t interested in finishing second
best.
He said: “It was a reality check for us to go second because we
have been top for the majority of the season.
“We want to stay there and win the league. We have to keep up
those high standards we set from the start and it is not done until
we win the league.”
