Gillingham sign Antonio German from Brentford on a one-month loan deal
By Luke Cawdell
Gillingham have added Brentford striker Antonio German to their
squad and another loan signing is in the pipeline.
German, 21, joins on a one-month loan and goes straight into
Gillingham’s squad ahead of the match with Oxford on Tuesday
night.
Former QPR striker German had a brief spell with Bromley before
being snapped up on an 18 month deal by Brentford in January last
year.
He moves to Priestfield to help fill the void left by Cody
McDonald, after he was recalled from a loan spell by Coventry City
on Monday.
German has made just four appearances for Brentford this season
and scored an equalising goal against Preston in November.
His last senior appearance came on December 4 as a substitute
for Brentford in their JP Trophy defeat to Southend.
Gills boss Martin Allen said: “We are currently in discussions
with another player to join us but I am not going to speculate or
comment on 'my mate’s brother’s friend who works down the chip shop
said' stories.”
German will stay with the Gills until April 1.
Development squad manager at Brentford, Ose Aibangee, told the
Brentford website: “This is a great opportunity for Antonio to go
out and play football at the top of League 2.
“It will be a great experience for Antonio to go in to a
pressurised atmosphere and play a good standard of football.
“Antonio has had some time in the first team this season,
scoring an important goal, and has played well at Under-21
level.
“He can now go out and play more first team football at a good
level.”
