Gillingham looking to equal record 10 league away wins in a season when facing Rochdale in League 2
Gillingham will be chasing a record equalling 10th away
league win at Rochdale on Saturday.
Only once before in the club’s Football League history have the
Gills managed to reach double figures on the road in a single
Gillingham won 10 games in the 1984/85 season, under the
management of Keith Peacock, in the old Division 3.
So far this season, the Gills have already clocked up nine away
wins – with 10 trips remaining – and look set to smash that
Gills boss Martin Allen said: "It is a remarkable record and it
shows what a good group of players we’ve got.
"We are a top of the league team. Everyone wants to beat you and
raises their game. There is no doubt about it.
"The crowd raise their game and what a test of character. We’re
going up north, there are blizzards, snow, cold weather, bad
conditions and the southern softies are going up north to try and
get another victory.
"It would be a victory that would match a record and it would be
a fantastic achievement for the players, creating history for this
football club and it’s another challenge we face."
