Gillingham manager Martin Allen aiming to re-take top spot in League 2 come full-time against Northampton on Tuesday
Gillingham manager Martin Allen is hoping to shrug off
Saturday’s disappointment by reclaiming top spot in League 2.
The Gills were held to a draw at home by mid-table York at the
weekend but Allen’s men sit just a point behind leaders Port Vale
and a win at home to Northampton on Tuesday will see them return to
Allen, pictured, said: "Wouldn’t it be nice to have the
whole stadium at the end of the game singing we are top of the
league, in chorus, non-stop? Wouldn’t that be nice? That would be
great for everyone."
Gillingham have struggled at home recently but Allen knows that
being a leading club brings with it different challenges.
He said: "We have been there (at the top) for about four and a
half months. In the last four games, we’ve won two, lost one and
drawn one, so over the four games that’s seven points, so we are
averaging just under two a game, which is good.
"These are good players. They are a good squad and they showed
in the second half on Saturday they can knock the ball about and
play at a good tempo with pace and create chances.
"I don’t think it will be too long before we get the victories
under our belt."
