John Schofield loving life at Gillingham

by Luke Cawdell
Assistant boss John Schofield has revealed how being part
of Gillingham’s promotion pursuit is like winning the lottery.
The Gills number two arrived in the summer after getting the
call from manager Martin Allen to assist him at Priestfield. And
former Lincoln manager Schofield is loving every minute.
"It has been fantastic," said the 47-year-old. "We came together
the day before pre-season and it has been full steam ahead ever
since.
"We had a couple of games postponed (recently) and, for the
staff, I would say it was a chance for us to re-charge but things
couldn’t really have gone any better.
"We have had great support from the fans, all the staff that we
inherited, all the people at the football club have been
welcoming.
"The chairman has been superb in helping us to re-jig and
shuffle the squad and add players to it and re-shape a few things,
in and around the club as well as the squad.
"The players have bought into what we want as well, which is
massive and like I said to the gaffer the other day, ‘does anyone
else feel like they’ve won the lottery?’
"It is easy having plans and a process on how you are going to
achieve those goals but to actually come to a football club that
really wants to embrace that vision you have, it’s been fantastic.
I am loving it."
