Gillingham manager Martin Allen hoping to leave promotion rivals behind as League 2 season enters its final phase

by Luke Cawdell
Gillingham manager Martin Allen believes the chasing pack will
be left in their wake if his team can maintain their unbeaten
run.
Allen’s men could extend their lead at the top of League 2 to
seven points if they win their game in hand at Rochdale on Tuesday
night.
Second-placed Port Vale are four points adrift and will be
desperate to see the Gills slip up.
Allen, pictured, said: “All I care about is us picking up
points and I know that if we keep picking up points with every game
we play, nobody can catch us – they can’t catch us.”
“It was a great atmosphere on Saturday, from the Morecambe fans
as well and our players have had to cope and manage that all
season. They have done fantastic.”
Just eight games remain between now and the end of
the campaign on April 27 and Allen is having so much fun he
doesn’t want the season to end.
He said: “It’s just a shame we can’t keep playing and do it all
again. These are a great group of blokes to work with and the staff
are fantastic, same as the players and the fans who back us every
week. I wish the season wasn’t finishing.”
