Gillingham boss Martin Allen forced to sit tight over Coventry City striker Cody McDonald

Gills boss Martin Allen is remaining tight-lipped over any
future approach for recently departed striker Cody McDonald.
McDonald scored four goals from six League 2 starts during a
successful one month loan from Coventry City.
But his stint at Priestfield was cut short when City’s caretaker
boss Lee Carsley recalled him at short notice.
McDonald has since made two last minute substitute appearances
in Coventry’s last two matches. But with the League 1 club
currently operating under a transfer embargo, they are unlikely to
want to see any players leave the club.
Allen (pictured) admitted the recall was “very disruptive” as
McDonald had been set to play against Oxford last week.
But talking about any future move, he said: “He is Coventry’s
player and I shouldn’t really comment on someone else’s footballer.
He is under contract to them and I certainly wouldn’t want to upset
Coventry City and their interim manager.
“Out of respect to Cody and Coventry and their potential new
manager, whoever that’s going to be, we should just sit tight and
let it take its course.”
Allen is still chasing transfer targets and admits two deals
with Championship clubs have been on the cards in recent days.
The Gills boss joined chairman Paul Scally in Dubai at the start
of this week.
“I haven’t been away on holiday," Allen insisted. "I haven’t
been on a sunbed once, I didn’t see a beach and although I saw a
swimming pool at the chairman’s house, I didn’t go in it. We were
working in his office and working on this type of stuff.
“We had an agreement with a Championship club last Thursday for
a player to join us on Friday and then he wasn’t coming on
Saturday. Then we had another offer in the middle of last week for
another Championship player, so we had two offers put in last week
which didn’t materialise.
“They were good offers, sensible and realistic. It hasn’t
happened but it is something we are still working on.”
