Charlton Athletic 0 Millwall 1
Charlton boss Chris Powell
Chris Powell was left disappointed after Charlton side suffered derby defeat at home to Millwall on Saturday.
A deflected strike from Scott McDonald settled the contest at The Valley and left the Addicks just a point above the Championship relegation zone.
Powell said: “The first half was lacklustre. I know it was a deflected goal which separated the two teams but I needed more from my players in respect of creativity and in the end, it petered out.
“It was a deflected goal so we were 1-0 down and then you’re always chasing. Even though we did have one or two situations in the second-half, sadly we couldn't break the deadlock.”
Scott McDonald opened the scoring eight minutes before half-time when his shot deflected off Dorian Dervite and flew past Ben Hamer.
The visitors went close to extending their lead through Martyn Woolford and Liam Trotter, before Dale Stephens mis-cued a volley wide at the other end.
Steve Morison came off the bench for Millwall and almost laid on a second Lions goal for Woolford.
There was a late chance for Charlton to snatch a point but keeper David Forde denied Cameron Stewart at the near post.
