Bradley Dack scored his third goal of the season at Notts County but was left rueing the ones that got away.
He had two good chances in the first half before finally scoring an equaliser straight after half-time.
The 19-year-old said: “Getting in the right positions is one thing and it is just about putting the ball away. I would have liked to have got a couple more but it wasn’t to be.
“It was good to get one but it’s hard to take when you have a couple of good chances, with one cleared off the line and one that hits the post.
“We were unlucky not to win. We should have got a draw but it just wasn’t to be. We need to kick on and hopefully beat Peterborough now on Saturday.”
It was a first start under manger Peter Taylor in the Football League for Dack and his goal was the third of the season for him.
He’s hoping to increase both appearances and goals between now and the end of the season.
“I have three goals now and hopefully I can try and get towards double figures, that would be a good season,” said the former Gills youth captain.
“It was good to get a start and hopefully I have done myself no harm in trying to kick on and have a good season now.”
