Welling moved up to seventh in the Skrill Premier after beating Aldershot in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs on Tuesday night.
The Wings thoroughly deserved their victory against a club who were plying their trade in League 2 last season.
Welling went ahead with the first notable attack when Jake Gallagher's mishit shot fell perfectly for Alex Dyer to fire in his second goal in as many home games.
Matt Paterson and Mark Molesley both shot over from distance for the visitors while Welling's Loui Fazakerley's left-wing cross had to be turned over by keeper Glenn Morris before Kurtis Guthrie headed over at the near post.
Welling continued to create the better chances in the second half. They somehow failed to score a second goal when Lee Clarke's cross-shot was not converted by Fraser Franks and Blaine Hudson headed the loose ball over. But it was at the other end where the centre-back pairing were impressive, giving Paterson and Brett Williams little joy all evening.
Aldershot finally rallied in the last 10 minutes as Williams outpaced Hudson but was denied by keeper Lee Butcher - the visitors' first attempt on target in the game - and then Loick Pires cleared substitute Lewis Young's effort off the line to preserve the points.
Welling are away for a third successive Saturday when they make the trip to Macclesfield this weekend.
