Peter Taylor won’t shy away from telling players what he thinks of them.
The Gillingham boss may appear calm and considered on the touchline but he believes honesty is the best way to get his side performing.
Gills take on fellow League 1 strugglers Tranmere at Prenton Park on Friday night and Rovers boss Ronnie Moore criticised his players after last weekend’s 4-1 defeat by Carlisle and cancelled their day off.
Taylor understands where Moore is coming from.
He said: “Players just want you to be yourself and be honest.
“If you’re frustrated with players for certain things, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t say so.
“Supporters want to know the truth, players want to know the truth and if it means you’re going to be saying something in the changing room, then I don’t think it’s a terrible thing.”
