Leon Legge returned to the Gillingham starting XI against Peterborough on Saturday in preference to loan signing Donervon Daniels.
Gills boss Peter Taylor was keen to “freshen things up” in defence after back-to-back away defeats.
Taylor said: “I am sure Donervon will be a good player and we want him to stay here as well but he has just had three matches, after not playing much previously, so I wanted to freshen it up a bit.
“Legge, in training, has looked dangerous at set-pieces and we thought that would be a good opportunity for him.”
Legge has missed the last three matches, as West Brom’s 20-year-old defender Daniels took his place in the side. Taylor has been impressed with Legge’s attitude to being dropped and said: “If a break doesn’t do anybody good, then they are not a good professional. Leon is a good lad and he will want to prove me wrong.”
