It was great to come away with a point for our efforts against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
Of course we wanted all three but the spirit we showed to recover from conceding a goal so early in the game was excellent and gives us a real platform to build on.
We went into the game hurting after the weekend loss at Burnley. For long periods there, we kept things nice and compact and their strikers had little sight of goal.
But they grabbed a lead shortly before the break and went on to complete the win.
It was disappointing and the mood in the camp was sombre but there’s only so long you can talk and reflect on setbacks – the key is to react in the right way on the field.
People may have feared the worse when Andy Reid’s free-kick sailed in early on against Forest but that really seemed to pull us together as players and the crowd was amazing.
The fans can have a big impact at The Valley and it’s something I’ve seen several times in my time at the club. When they are up for it they can make it a really raucous atmosphere and that can be unsettling for opposition teams.
It definitely played a part against Forest and we were by far the better side against a team who were flying high after a derby win last week.
Roared on by the support, we got on the front foot and started to ask questions of them. Although we had fallen behind, there was nothing to fear from them and we created several chances before Marvin Sordell put one away early in the second half.
For most of the game there only looked like one winner but it was important that we remained sharp and focused at the back as they have some good attacking options and showed that with the substitutions.
But for a bit more fortune in and around the box, we might have got three points. Jordan Cousins hit the post and I volleyed one chance wide.
The win eluded us but we have to be happy with the way we took the game to one of the promotion favourites.
It’s now about maintaining that momentum against Blackpool at The Valley this weekend.
