Tamworth 1 Welling 1
Welling paid the price for missed chances after being held to a draw at lowly Tamworth in the Skrill Premier on Saturday.
The Wings, back in action for the first time since February 1 due to the weather and the FA Trophy, dominated the first half and should have led by more than Kurtis Guthrie’s 41st-minute goal.
On-loan Charlton forward Tobi Sho-Silva went clean through early on but sliced his left-foot shot wide while Harry Beautyman’s drive from the edge of the area went just past the post.
Welling deservedly went ahead just before the break when Beautyman’s right-wing cross went all the way to Guthrie, who cut inside and shot home for his fourth goal of the season.
Guthrie should have had a second straight after half-time but, reacting to Ross Lafayette’s header down, he lobbed keeper Cameron Belford but saw his effort hit the bar.
Tamworth, who had earlier hit the woodwork through Lloyd Kerry, levelled late on when a long free-kick from Belford was headed down by Michael Townsend and former Dartford and Ebbsfleet loan forward Matt Godden, on loan from Scunthorpe, fired beyond keeper Lee Butcher.
Welling entertain Gateshead at Park View Road on Tuesday night.
