Awards entry catches the eye
Bringing a new meaning to eye-catching, this artwork is among
the winning entrants for the 2012 John Downton Awards, an
annual exhibition for emerging talent in Kent.
The piece by Joe Reddy of Goudhurst’s Bethany School won the
category for ages 17 to 18 and art fans can see the pick
of this year’s crop at the County Gallery in County Hall,
Maidstone.
The awards commemorate John Downton, the Kent artist, poet and
philosopher, who was born in Erith in 1906.
Artwork in the exhibition includes photographs, mixed media and
paintings, with winners judged in a number of categories and a John
Downton trophy awarded for the best overall submission.
There is still one more award up for grabs, with voting for the
People's Choice Award open for visitors.
