Kent's War archive to be demonstrated
Visitors to
The Historic Dockyard in Chatham this Saturday will have
an exclusive chance to experience Kent’s War, a
unique website created by the KM Group.
This digital archive contains tens of
thousands of stories, photographs and advertisements from
KM Group newspapers published between 1939 and 1945.
Hundreds of news pages have been microfilmed
by Medway-based Microformat and
converted to a fully-searchable archive by one of the leading
digitisation companies, Olive Software.
Demonstrations will be given in the entrance
lobby of the Dockyard's museum on National Armed Forces’ Day
on Saturday June 27.
Users will be able to search on dates, family
names, place names and key words.
Managing Editor Ron Green said: "I hope people
take the opportunity to get a first glimpse of this fascinating
website.
"The KM’s war pages provide a first-hand
account of every day life as well as the remarkable courage and
tenacity of the people in Medway and Kent who endured so much for
so long."
The company plans to launch the website in
September to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the declaration
of World War ll.
KM Group are media partners with The Historic
Dockyard and kmfm presenters
Neil Faraday and
Neil Redding will be broadcasting their shows live from the
Dockyard. The Newspaper Sales Unit will also be present during the
event.
Marketing Manager Stacy Pannett says “With our
live radio broadcastings we are hoping to interact with as many of
the visitors as possible during the day and get their messages back
to their loved ones in action overseas.”
