KM Group to combine East and West subbing desks
Kent’s
leading media company has announced plans to consolidate its two
subbing desks in one location.
Family-owned
KM Group currently has news production desks based in Larkfield, near
Maidstone, and Wraik Hill, near Whitstable.
Under the proposal, all news and sports
sub-editors will be based in the company’s modern Wraik Hill
building.
There are no plans to reduce the number of
full and part-time staff on the production desk.
Editorial director Ian Carter said: “KM Group
firmly believes in keeping a fully-staffed, Kent-based production
desk. The experience and talent we have in the subbing team plays a
vital role in ensuring we produce market-leading newspapers.
“However, by basing the team in one location
we will be able to work more efficiently whilst achieving
consistent standards of design and content.”
KM Group publishes 14 newspapers, including
Kent Messenger (Series), the South East's biggest-selling weekly
regional newspaper, Kentish Gazette Group, Kentish Express
(Series), Gravesend and Dartford Messenger (Series), East Kent
Mercury (Series) and Sheerness Times Guardian alongside a portfolio
of 8 kmfm radio stations and 18 websites.
392,483 KM Group titles are circulated every
week and reach 662,931 readers. (ABC Jul-Dec 2009 / JICREG Apr
