A charity bike ride is moving with the times to welcome electric bikes.

According to the most recent figures released by HMRC, UK sales of e-bikes have rocketed in the past two years. The powered bikes offer riders an efficient, economical and green means of travel and are perfect for zooming up hills without stress or strain.

However, not many cycling challenges allow e-bikes to take part. This is set to change as the KM Big Bike Ride invites electric riders to take part in its 50K route which will weave through the Kent countryside.

The KM Big Bike Ride has become a high point in the annual cycling calendar, known for its mix of challenge, charity and ease of navigation. The sportive is unusual because of its double signage making it virtually impossible for riders to take a wrong turn. Every year the event raises thousands of pounds for charitable causes.

Bike expert Andy Croucher from Locks Cycles, said: “The KM Big Bike Ride welcomes all cyclist of all abilities on all bikes, including e-bikes, which we are finding are becoming more and more popular.”

All participants will receive a limited edition medal upon completion and photographs will also be available to all. Refuelling stations will be located throughout both rides for those requiring additional drink and sustenance.

Taking place on Sunday, April 23 2017, the KM Big Bike Ride is open to all, but children aged 12 – 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Key partners of the event include Locks of Sandwich Cycles and Vattenfall, with additional support from Betteshanger Country Park, Biketart and The Freewheel.
