The pupils - from Sutton Valence School, Maidstone - are taking part in the adrenaline challenge event on Sunday, July 5 at Mote Park along with parents to raise funds for Breast Cancer Kent.

Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team, which stages the event, said: “Three different teams of cadets are going to be taking on the challenge.

“It’s almost a grudge match so we’re really looking forward to seeing how it impacts on their times and the amount of money they raise.”

Brandon Bishop, RAF cadet, said: “It’s a good cause and we want to beat the Navy at what they’re apparently best at. We want to see if we can get a better result.”

Helen Teare of Breast Cancer Kent said: “We are getting involved in the KM Dragon Boat Race this year because we thought it was such a lot of family fun and we can involve our children’s school.”

Charities and businesses across Kent will make a splash at the seventh annual KM Dragon Boat Race and there is still time for more teams to book.

Teams of 11 will compete in at least three races with the fastest teams taking part in an exciting final at the end of the day. One crew member will beat a drum to set the pace while the others take to the paddles.

Mr Dolby said: “No matter which cause you are supporting, you can use the KM Dragon Boat Race to raise funds for it.

“This is a fantastic family day and for many charities this is their biggest fundraising event of the year, so come and be part of it.”

This year’s event is supported by Kent Reliance, Mote Park Water Sports Centre and Countrystyle.
