The awards, organised by the KM’s charity department, honour the vital contribution that teachers, non-teaching staff and volunteers make to the community.

Award categories available for sponsorship include Science, Geography and History.

The Sport award is being sponsored by Kent County Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Service (Kent Sport), which gives everyone the chance to be more active. Partners include Sport England and work is coordinated through the Kent and Medway Sports Board.

Mike Hill, cabinet member for community services, said: “The contribution and commitment from within the county’s schools to sport and physical activity both within the curriculum and across extracurricular activities is striking, and we are delighted to recognise teachers’ leadership of school sport and physical education.”

Carolyn Dool, sports projects officer for the service, added: “Teachers play a pivotal role in our children’s futures and are key in embedding sport and physical activity into their lives at a young age to ensure a sporting habit for life is created.”

Event organiser Simon Dolby urged other organisations to get involved with sponsorship. “Help us to reward the staff and volunteers in Kent who work hard all year round and inspire children for a lifetime,” he said.

Last year’s awards received a record 480 nominations.

Nominations open on January 2 and the winners will be announced at a presentation ceremony in May.
