The annual charity event, now in its 16th year, raised £8k for good causes, including the League of Friends at Canterbury Hospital, the children’s literacy and road safety services of the KM Charity Team, as well as the Kentish Gazette’s charity of the Year, Pilgrims Hospice.

The Unicorn Inn beat Medway-based Supernova by two points with an impressive 84 per cent of correct answers. The pub quiz team dominated the event more than a decade ago when the annual event was staged at the Westgate Hall. In that era celebrity Shaun Williamson was an occasional member of the team.

Quiz Master Simon Dolby said that 40 teams had booked to take part in the event and the number scoring 50 per cent or more was 77 per cent, both figures up on last year.

Mr Dolby said: “The event is growing in popularity with more teams representing schools and local government, the NHS and caring services and from the University of Kent, in particular.”
