Polly Viccars and staff at Kent Reliance announce that the KM Dragon Boat Race 2016 staged at Mote Park, Maidstone is now a sell-out with all 60 teams booked.

The record-breaking challenge event has surpassed last year’s figure by 10 making this the biggest year in its history.

A huge 60 boats, each with up to 17 rowers each, have been booked ahead of the Sunday, July 3 charity fundraiser staged at Mote Park, Maidstone.

Key partners Kent Reliance – a long-serving supporter of the event – are thrilled by the success. Polly Viccars of Kent Reliance, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be taking part in the Dragon Boat Race once again – it’s such a brilliant challenge event. We are also so excited to hear that we are at full capacity with all 60 boats booked”.

She added: “Last year the race raised £100,000 for good causes across the county, and we are really hoping to smash this figure in 2016. We’re also really looking forward to taking on the fellow 59 teams, so watch out!”.

Teams of 11 compete in the race, with one crew member beating a beat to dictate the pace of the paddles. They take part in a minimum of three races but the fastest teams compete in the finals at the end of the day.

All teams may have up to 17 members in order to raise more money and enable everyone to compete in at least two races on the day.

100% of money raised will go towards participants’ chosen charities and last year the event shattered records for funds accumulated. At current, the 2016 event is on track to topple its predecessor here too.

Dominic Comins, events manager at the KM Charity Team which organises the race, said: “The Dragon Boat Race is perhaps our biggest event in the calendar, and with a staggering 60 boats sold, it looks as though we are in for our largest ever charity fundraiser. We eagerly await the challenge day and look forward to seeing all our rowers in action”
