Staff from Joydens Wood Junior School and Wilmington Academy celebrate their Kent Literacy Awards wins in 2015. The 2016 nominations remain open until noon on Friday, April 29.

The scheme recognises schools in Kent, Medway and Bexley providing innovative practices to advance pupils’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

Nominations are accepted from teachers, support staff, management, parents and pupils, and more than one nomination can be submitted. All entries must be received by noon on Friday, April 29.

A selection of Kent Literacy Awards judges will gather the winning entries and all successful applicants will be invited to a formal awards celebration evening staged at Sittingbourne’s Hempstead House Hotel and Spa at the end of June.

All winning entries will be published and circulated to all schools across the county to further promote these active schemes and help spread positive, creative learning.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team which organises the awards, said: “There is just 24 hours left to submit your nominations for the Kent Literacy Awards and give back to the hard-working schools who are preparing the next generation for a more fruitful future. We at the charity believe it is essential to congratulate school staff for their efforts, so join us in our efforts to celebrate best practice.”

All nominations will be judged by the Kent Literacy Awards panel made up of key partners including Southern Educational Leadership Trust (SELT), Beanstalk, Social Enterprise Kent (SEK), School News Group, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Golding Vision (Part of Golding Homes), Kent County Council, Medway Council, The Canterbury Tales and Hallett & Co.
