There are less than seven days to submit your nominations for the Kent Literacy Awards.

The scheme is designed to celebrate and showcase fantastic initiatives in operation across schools in Kent, Medway and Bexley which are furthering pupils’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through innovative teaching.

A variety of categories are available for submissions including Best Promotion of Reading for Pleasure, Most Effective Use of IT to Enhance Reading, and Most Engaging Book Week Theme.

Nominations are accepted from teachers, school support staff, management, parents and pupils across the county, and more than a single nomination can be submitted. All entries must be received by noon on Friday, April 29.

A selection of Kent Literacy Awards judges will gather the winning entries and all successful applicants will be invited to a formal awards celebration evening staged at Sittingbourne’s Hempstead House Hotel and Spa at the end of June.

All winning entries will be published and circulated to all schools across the county to further promote these active schemes and help spread best practice.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team which organises the awards, said: “There’s only a week to go until the Kent Literacy Awards deadline so time is running out to show your appreciation for a great school going above the line of duty to support the next generation.”

He added: “The awards are a celebration of best practice inside and outside the classroom, and we think it is extremely important to recognise the excellent work schools are providing.”

All nominations will be judged by the Kent Literacy Awards panel made up of key partners including School News Group, Hallett & Co., Medway Council, Southern Educational Leadership Trust (SELT), Beanstalk, The Canterbury Tales, Social Enterprise Kent (SEK), Golding Vision (Part of Golding Homes), Three R’s Teacher Recruitment and Kent County Council.
