The winner of the History Teacher of the Year Award will be invited to a glittering awards dinner celebrating the best and brightest school staff, volunteers and teams across the county. The event, held at Leeds Castle in May, will honour around 50 outstanding individuals who are a credit to their schools.

In addition to receiving a limited edition trophy, the winner will be able to share their victory with pupils by treating a whole class to a day out at Leeds Castle.

Helen Ellis, education manager of the leading visitor attraction, said she was proud the venue will be hosting the awards ceremony and sponsoring the Key Stage 2 History Award.

She said: “Our 900 years of history and unique setting provide an ideal location for teachers to use as a valuable resource for learning outside the classroom. The teaching awards are important because they recognise excellence and the importance of teaching as a profession, which in turn inspires children."

Helen added: “Leeds Castle offers workshops on a variety of subjects with the historical themes proving to be the most popular. New for 2015 is ‘From Cave to Castle’ which takes a fun and interactive look at chronology and timelines from the hunter-gather period to 1066 further emphasising the relevance for sponsoring the Key Stage 2 History Award.”

The Kent Teacher of the Year Awards are open for nominations for teachers, non teaching staff, volunteers or teams who are going above and beyond the call of duty for their schools.

Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team, which is organising the event, urged members of the public to make a nomination.

“Help us to reward the teachers and support staff who are passionate, dedicated and committed to their vocation,” he said.

A number of organisations have announced their support of the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards 2015 including William Giles Chartered Accountants, CXK, Brachers Law, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Social Enterprise Kent, Project Salus, Kent Sport, Southern Educational Leadership Trust, Kent County Council, Medway Council, Christ Church University, the Marlowe Theatre, Leeds Castle, and the following departments at the University of Kent: Politics and International Relations; Psychology; Physical Sciences; Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science; Biosciences; European Culture and Languages; and History.
