Record breaking KM Assault Course Challenge at Betteshanger Country Park raises £15,000 for charity

Thirty seven teams from across the county braved water jumps, tunnels, balance beams and a rope walk at the KM Assault Course Challenge on Saturday to raise a record £15,000 for charity.

Many of the teams donned spectacular fancy dress outfits as they scrambled to victory for 23 good causes including the Stacey Mowle Appeal, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Services, Deal Breastfeeding Group, Martha Trust, Haemophilia Society, Dover Smart Project, Abigail’s Footsteps, the Milly Moo Foundation, MAGIC, Caring for Connor, Thanet CAB, East Kent Mencap, SNAAP, Kasper Fostering, Catching Lives, Guide Dogs for the Blind (Ashford and Kent-wide), Vicar of Tenterden Trust, Young Kent, Porchlight, Help for Heroes and the Poppy Appeal.

Thundering into first place for biggest amount of sponsorship raised was Aimee Smith with £438 for the Haemophilia Society, Deal and winning the star prize of an iPad mini 2 from True Telecom. The most successful fundraising group was the Stacey Mowle Appeal from Gravesend and Medway who collected £1,219.

The best fancy dress award went to the Parochial Pensioners team from Deal who completed the course in granny outfits with inflatable zimmer frames. They supported Help for Heroes to the tune of £377.

Sixty eight year old Gerry Harris was the oldest participant raising funds for Herne Bay based SNAAP and the youngest was 12 year old Max Pithman for the Stacey Mowle Appeal, Gravesend.

Organised by the KM Charity Team and supported by London Fancy Box and Swanstaff Recruitment the event was held at Betteshanger Country Park near Deal. Teams were required to work together to successfully complete 19 obstacles with souvenir certificates available at the finish line.

Dominic Comins of the KM Charity Team said: “I am delighted that our intrepid teams had such a fantastic day out and raised £15,000 - beating last year’s charity total by more than £1,000!”
