Phil Gallagher, who plays the role of Mister Maker in the CBeebies children's television show, will deliver a story time session at the school that is top for green travel or home reading.

The competition is being organised by the KM Charity Team, which Mr Gallagher is an Honorary Patron of. More than 50,000 children at 250 primary schools will be involved in the contest and aiming to clock up green journeys to school or extra reading on the competition day of Wednesday, March 4.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: "This is a very exciting event for our schools. To have such a high profile children's personality supporting us in this way is fantastic. We are expecting a big increase in the home reading and green travel figures next week."

The two classes that are top in either subject will go into a draw to win the visit from Mr Gallagher. The runner up will win the use of the Marlowe Studio performance space to stage their own production or £250 to spend in their school library.

Fourteen wining classes across the county will each receive 30 free child entry tickets to the Silver Blades ice skating rink, Medway.

The KM Charity Team is supported by Mini Babybel, Spscavers, Countrystyle Recycling and Three R’s Teacher Recruitment Agency. To find out more, visit www.kmcharityteam.co.uk.
