For over 75 years, the Assembly Hall Theatre has presented an eclectic programme of live events from family shows to classical music. Our regional receiving theatre in Tunbridge Wells can seat 1,020, and over the past six years over 1.2 million customers have attended shows. We’re renowned for attracting diverse audiences from Tunbridge Wells and beyond.
The Assembly Hall Theatre has undergone a £1.5 million refurbishment with new auditorium seating, carpets and curtains, plus a completely redesigned bar as well as major refurbishments and enhancements backstage.
We are proud to have played host to major shows and performers including: musicians like Nigel Kennedy, Sebastian Faulks's Birdsong, Gregory Porter, Madness frontman Suggs, the ever-popular Jools Holland and Paul Carrack, the Robert Cray Band; children’s' favourites Peppa Pig, Horrible Histories, The Tiger Who Came To Tea, and Sing-a-long Frozen; West End touring productions Evita, The Full Monty, Avenue Q and Calamity Jane; inspiring evenings with Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Sir Chris Bonnington; comedians Reginald D Hunter, Al Murray, Paul Merton, Jimmy Carr, Ross Noble and many more.
Our theatre is larger than many in the region. Our high seating capacity, large stage and excellent backstage facilities and crew mean that we can attract big shows that other theatres in the area can’t. For example, touring runs of major West End productions including Chicago, Cabaret, Priscilla, and Evita. We offer eclectic programming to suit all tastes and ages, from musicals and drama to top notch comedians. The theatre is also the chosen venue of several highly-regarded community groups, hosts an annual arts exhibition and is used as a conference venue.
