16-year-old boy to appear in Maidstone Magistrates' Court charged with murder

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court today charged with murder after a man was killed in Maidstone on Friday night.

The teenager spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth at Maidstone Magistrates this morning.

He is accused of murdering Wayne Chester, 50.

Police and paramedics were called to McDonald's, in Week Street, Maidstone, at 10.30pm on Friday following reports of a disturbance.

The court heard that the 50-year-old was punched in the face and knocked to the ground.

Mr Chester, who lived in Maidstone, was taken to a London hospital with a head injury and was put into an induced coma but sadly later died.

The boy was remanded into youth detention until his next court appearance at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday.

The crown court judge will consider an application for him to be bailed.

An 18-year-old and two boys, 17 and 15, who were also arrested on suspicion of murder have been bailed until Thursday, October 12. All the suspects are from Maidstone.
