Brazen thieves stole the wedding and engagement rings belonging to an 84-year-old man's dead wife.

The break-in saw the culprits swipe the gold and cubic zirconia engagement ring and oval gold wedding ring from the man's home in Anglesey Avenue, Maidstone.

They also swiped £225 in cash on Bank Holiday Monday - while the man was either in his home or garden.

Now police are appealing for help to solve the crime.

PC Tim Murrell said: "This break-in occurred while an elderly man, living alone, was still on his property.

"Both of these rings are of great sentimental value to the victim and I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious or who recognises their description to contact us as soon as possible."

Both rings are estimated to be at least 50 years old.

If you have any information or have been offered rings for sale call 101 and quote reference YY/10007/13, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
