A man from Maidstone has been remanded in custody accused of attempted murder after a suspected hammer attack.

Trenton Musgrave, of Melville Road, appeared before the town's magistrates today.

The 29-year-old, who spoke only to confirm his identity, was refused bail and remanded in custody until a hearing at the crown court on Friday, July 5.

Musgrave was arrested yesterday in connection with an attack in Boxley Road, Maidstone, at about 1.30am on Saturday.

William McMaster, 35 and also from the town, was left in a serious but stable condition in hospital with serious head injuries.

Police were looking for two men who had been at a party with the victim earlier in the evening.

A vehicle had been recovered and was being examined for evidence.
