Greenfields community pupils tell us why Ofsted is not always the whole story

Our school is great - that is the verdict of pupils at Greenfields Community Primary.

Pupils aged 7-9 wrote to the Kent Messenger following a series of articles published earlier this year on changes to Ofsted inspection criteria.

The articles were prompted by the fact that Ofsted has removed the "satisfactory" rating in school inspections. Instead schools are now graded as "requires improvement" or "inadequate."

Greenfields, in Oxford Road, Shepway, was rated by inspectors as "requiring improvement" but pupils wanted to tell us that life viewed through an inspector's eyes doesn't always match what is happening in lessons.

Leah Matthews wrote: "My class thinks you have got it all wrong. Since last year our school has been absolutely incredible. I am proud to say that I am a part of Greenfields.

"Mr Andrews does a magnificent job as headteacher and our deputy head does an amazing job too."

Lily-Rose Adams told us: "I am proud to be part of Greenfields. If anyone asks what school I go to, I'm not afraid to tell them."

KM assistant news editor Mary Graham met pupils and class teacher Karen Stevens and the pupils turned young reporter for the day to gather quotes on why they enjoy school.

During the visit, pupils praised the school for its ethos on good behaviour and creating a supportive environment.

"This school is good because we have improved our behaviour," said Lacey Wenham.

Eight-year-old Lili Nemes added: "I like this school because the behaviour is great. I do not get distracted while working."

And Ethan Hunt told us: "I have achieved a high level in maths. I am nearly a Level 4!"
