Woman and child seriously hurt after crash with lorry near Cranbrook

A woman and child have been seriously injured in a head-on crash between a car and lorry near Cranbrook today.

The woman was airlifted to King's College Hospital in London after being cut free from the wrecked car in the A229 Hawkhurst Road.

And the child was taken to Pembury Hospital by land ambulance before being transfered to King's College Hospital.

Kent Police said both are in a serious but stable condition and their family have been informed.

The driver of the lorry is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 9.15am after a smash between a red Peugeot 206 and a lorry.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service had to remove the vehicle's roof to rescue the woman.

The A229 Hawkhurst Road was closed in both directions between Glassenbury Road and Swattenden Lane.

Police said it remained shut until around 2.50pm while officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out investigations.
