A footballer was treated by ambulance crews at the weekend following a clash of heads on the pitch.

The accident happened in the last minutes of the opening game of the Ryman Premier League between Maidstone United and the Metropolitan Police on Saturday.

The Stones were ahead when a Maidstone and Met Police player jumped for the same ball.

Both received treatment from their team physios, but the club’s doctor was called to the police player and summoned an ambulance because initially he was drifting in and out of consciousness.

However, after assessment at the scene, Mitchell Gutteridge, 19, was allowed to go home without further treatment.

The game continued after a short delay with the Stones winning 3-1 in front of a gate of more than 1,500.
