Armed police were scrambled amid reports a knifeman was making threats to kill at a Maidstone flat.

Officers surrounded the Sutton Road property at about 11.20am on Saturday.

They were sent to the scene after an alleged stand-off with unarmed officers called to the flat earlier in the day.

Kent Police said on Monday that Michael Elmstrom, 30, of Alfred Close, Canterbury, had been charged with affray, including unlawful violence and a public order offence.

He was due to appear at Maidstone Magistrates Court.
