Maidstone Borough Council confirm numerous people have complained after not receiving ballot papers for postal voting

A number of postal voters in Maidstone have not received ballot papers for both the upcoming elections, it has been revealed.

Constituents who have encountered the issue have been told the only way around the problem is to collect replacement forms from Maidstone Borough Council’s office in King Street.

Stephen and Susan King, from Leeds Road, Langley, registered to vote remotely but only received slips allowing them to back a candidate in Sutton Valence and Langley ward for the council elections.

Mr King, 59, who often works away from home and as a result cannot attend a polling station on Thursday, said: “We both promptly filled out our voting cards and sent them back. There was nothing in either envelope to suggest we should have received both slips together.”

A MBC spokesman confirmed it's election line had received several reports of the problem and due to time constraints they cannot guarantee forms will arrive by polling day.

Therefore constituents must collect the forms in person, fill them out and hand them back to staff by 5pm on Thursday, May 7.

She added that all postal voting packs were thoroughly checked before being sent out and if anyone experiences any further they should call the council's election helpline 01622 602007.
