Car fire closes A229 Blue Bell Hill near Maidstone

Busy Blue Bell Hill has reopened following a car fire earlier this afternoon.

The vehicle burst into flames on a slip-road on the south-bound carriageway, close to Sandling, at about 12.30pm, police said.

Traffic ground to a halt and firefighters and police rushed to the scene.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the occupants were out of the car when crews arrived and no one is believed to have been injured.

Kent County Council said the road has now reopened.
