Bomb squad called to Sheals Crescent, Maidstone

A bomb disposal team was called to the County Town today after a suspicious item was found at a property.

Officers went to Sheals Crescent, Maidstone, in the early hours as part of an investigation into an historic assault.

While there, they called in an explosives team to examine an item found.

A man, 39, was arrested and has been bailed until December 4.

It is not believed there was any threat to the public and the item has since been declared safe.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police were notified at 2.14am on Saturday 11 November 2017 to a report of a non-recent assault at Sheals Crescent, Maidstone.

"Officers attended the scene and requested EOD, as a precaution, to assess an item that was found at the scene. This was subsequently deemed as safe."
