Maidstone: County Town gets farmers' market

Jubilee Square in Maidstone will play host to a brand new farmers' market today.

The market will be open from 10am until 2pm, and will offer shoppers a variety of fresh and local products, including meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, dairy products, jam, cider, and much more.

The market has been set up by Maidstone Borough Council, in collaboration with Kent Farmers' Market Association.

The market will be the first of many for the town, with it due to return each month.

Fran Wallis, Maidstone Borough Council's Local Economy Project Officer, said: "Maidstone as enjoyed a market since as far back as 1267.

"Villages and towns across Kent hold farmers' markets so it is only right that the county town, with such a long history of markets, hosts its own."
