Man charged after car almost rolled into traffic during M20 police stop

An abandoned car came close to rolling into motorway traffic after a man jumped out when stopped by police.

Officers pulled over a Ford Mondeo for a routine check on the London-bound carriageway of the M20 at junction 8 for Hollingbourne.

As the vehicle pulled onto the hard shoulder at around 3pm on Wednesday, police said a man jumped from the car and entered a nearby field.

The unoccupied vehicle was then said to have rolled forwards and rebounded off a crash barrier before it was brought stopped by the police vehicle.

A carrier bag of cash was seized by officers and one man was arrested.

Edmir Dervishaj, 27, from Queens Road, Hastings, was later charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance and possession of criminal property, namely a quantity of cash.

He appeared by video link before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody to Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday July 9.
