Air ambulance called as car hits Chart Sutton electricity pole

Emergency services descended on a village road after a car crashed into an electrical pole.

Air ambulance crews joined paramedics, firefighters and police at Plough Wents Road in Chart Sutton, near Maidstone, at 8.20pm yesterday.

The crash left dozens of homes without power.

A spokesman from Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "The incident involved a car that had collided with an electrical pole.

"SECAmb were able to get a woman out of her vehicle without our assistance.

"UK Power Networks was called and we assisted in making the scene safe".

The woman, who was driving the car, was taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital with a hand injury.

A spokesperson from UK Power Networks said: "Engineers needed to turn off electricity supplies to 31 customers in Plough Wents Road, Chart Sutton, between 9.20pm and 11pm yesterday to repair a power line damaged in a road accident.

"Repairs were completed as quickly as possible and one final supply was reconnected at 12.30am today."
