Ann Widdecombe and Shane Jenek clash over gay marriage in Celebrity Big Brother

It was another busy night of action in the Celebrity Big Brother House yesterday (Sunday), with Ann Widdecombe once again making her voice heard.

The former Maidstone and The Weald MP, who served from 1987 to 2010, branded one task "a spectator sport of pain," before sparking a debate over gay marriage with drag queen Shane Jenek.

Chatting with Mr Jenek, better known under his stage name Courtney Act, Miss Widdecombe said: "You call it marriage equality, you call it the redefinition of marriage. Marriage is a civil insititution, that is defined by parliament.

Ann Widdecombe, 70, was the first to enter the CBB house on Tuesday, January 2.

"If people want to change that, I want to be persuaded that it's a good idea and I'm not. Marriage is a man and a woman and I have got the idea that you don't agree with me."

The RuPaul's Drag Race star later said in the diary room: "I like that you can have a civilised conversation with someone who has a different opinion to yourself.

"While I strongly disagree with Ann's opinions, I respect her right to have them, and we can still coexist as human beings."

The debate followed an earlier task where the three of the new male celebrities - who entered the house on Friday - were put through the pain of labour.

The 70-year-old slammed her fellow housemates for laughing as former England footballer John Barnes, along with comedian Dapper Laughs and former Apprentice star Andrew Brady were put through the ordeal.

She said: "'I wasn't the one going through that, and anyone who laughed at that, it is not just a game. A spectator sport of pain is horrible."

The comments left glamour model Jess Impiazzi fighting back tears as she said: "'I don't know why I'm made to feel guilty about it, it's getting silly now everyone is getting too serious, it's always like I'm the stupid one."

Miss Widdecombe has already faced criticism for referring to transgender housemate India Willoughby as 'he'.

The series continues on Channel 5 at 9pm tonight.
