A serious crash which closed a stretch of the M26 has now been cleared.

The incident happened on the coastbound carriageway near Junction 2a for Wrotham Heath.

It is thought a vehicle hit a lamp column, which then fell across the carriageway.

It was reported to emergency services just before 4pm and the route was closed shortly afterwards.

Queues built up, but all lanes are now said to have reopened.
