Maidstone: Customers evacuated from Wetherspoons in Week Street

Customers have been evacuated from a pub in Maidstone town centre.

Wetherspoons in Week Street reportedly asked everyone to leave when the fire alarm went off at around 6.48pm.

Witnesses said crowds of people could be seen standing outside the venue, but Kent Fire and Rescue said it had not been told of any emergency.

A Wetherspoon spokesman said: "The building above The Society Rooms had a false alarm activation about 6.45pm so as a precaution we evacuated for approximately 15 minutes. We are all back up and running."
