Olympic athlete Dame Kelly Holmes takes part in Maidstone parkrun

Early morning runners were put through their paces by double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes today.

Dame Kelly joined dozens of runners at parkrun, which leaves Lock Lane in Sandling, near Maidstone at 9am every Saturday.

The athlete, who lives in Hildenborough, joined in with the 5k community dash along the river, through Whatman Park and back to Kent Life.

She congratulated Jo Frazer-Wise, who along with Paul Williams, Ronald Smith and Alastair Carr, completed her 100th parkrun.

Jo, who first took part in November 2013, said: "It was great, she stayed until the end and saw every runner home and was very happy to take selfies and photos with everyone."

"She teased us last night saying she might come before confirming this morning."
