The missing head of a hotel's iconic dog statue has been returned.

While Maidstone was without one famous Dogg on Friday, the Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel was celebrating after the head of its iconic great dane statue was sent back after being decaptitated by vandals.

An extensive search of the hotel grounds had failed to find the severed head, and hotel manager Dominic Di Cara appealed for its return through the Kent Messenger.

The head was then delivered back, after being thrown bacjk into the bushes from a car late at night.

Mr Di Cara, who had been celebrating the return of the 70-year-old Great Danes name after a campiagn, said he hoped to have the statue restored, hiding the crack where the head had been removed.
