Two-car crash closes A20 Ashford Road at Maidstone

Big traffic delays were reported in Maidstone following a head-on crash near wedding venue Turkey Mill on the A20 Ashford Road.

An elderly man was treated at the scene after being cut free from the wreckage by fire crews.

The road was closed in both directions between Huntsman Lane and A249 Wat Tyler Way.

The crash happened at 3.40pm.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to a head-on collision between two cars.

"An elderly man was trapped in his car and had to be cut free by Kent Fire and Rescue Services and treated by South East Coast Ambulance crew."

Kent Highways reported that the road had been reopened at 6.10pm after the vehicles had been recovered but warned that traffic delays remained in the area.

Witnesses reported an oil spill on the road at the crash site which is one mile east of the town centre.
