Former Maidstone paper mill site developers unveil 300-home exhibition

An exhibition exploring plans to build almost 300 homes at a former Maidstone paper mill site will be open to the public on Saturday.

Redrow Homes will be hosting the event focusing on Springfield Mill at Fremlin Walk Shopping Centre between 10am and 4pm.

The plans for Springfield Mill have been designed to provide new housing while ensuring "modern riverside living which complements the existing character of the site and its environment".

The original plans have already been refined based on the feedback received from Maidstone Borough Council. Redrow is now opening the consultation to all residents around the site to give their views on what is proposed.

The proposed development will consist of up to 300 units, made up of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments overlooking the River Medway and to the east of the site, and three and four bedroom terraced and semi-detached based around feature squares on the rest of the site.

The conversion of the Grade II listed Rag Room is still under discussion with potential community use being considered.

David Banfield, Planning Director, said: “This will be an exciting project on a town centre brownfield site, creating modern living in a superb location next to the river, and within walking distance of amenities and transport links.

“The exhibition provides an opportunity for residents and others to give their views on our proposals before we submit a planning application later in the spring.”

The public exhibition will take place at The Bandstand, Fremlin Walk Shopping Centre, in Maidstone, between 10am and 4pm on Saturday (March 18).

The development team will be on hand to discuss the proposals and answer any queries residents have. Further updates and information will be available on the website at: www.planningconsultation.net/springfield-mill.
