They’ve battered the competition.

Papa’s Barn fish and chip restaurant in London Road, Ditton, took on similar establishments across the country and was named the third best nationally.

The business, owned by brothers Theo and Michael Papa-Adams, came away with the accolade from the 2014 Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Awards, held at London’s Lancaster Hotel this week.

After being selected as finalists, the pair had to pitch presentations to a panel of industry judges in a Dragon’s Den-style event.

They lost out to Quayside in Whitby and Frankie’s Fish and Chips in Brae, Shetland.
Theo said: “As this is the first year we entered the awards, we are ecstatic to be ranked so highly.”

The contest was organised by Seafish. Chief executive Paul Williams said: “Papa’s Barn stood out for their commitment and determination throughout the entire judging process, and we’d like to congratulate them in taking third place.”

The restaurant re-opened in August 2011, after it was rebuilt following a fire in January 2010.
