Bus stop in Sutton Road, Maidstone damaged in a crash

A woman has been taken to hospital after the car she was driving hit a bus stop in Maidstone.

Police were called to Sutton Road at 10.15am following the crash, which involved a silver people carrier.

The collision badly damaged the bus stop, at Longfield Place, which has collapsed causing it to be cordoned off.

An ambulance and a car from SECambs attended the scene.

Firefighters were scrambled to the scene as a precaution, after smoke was seen coming from the car.

Paramedics treated the driver, who was out of her vehicle, for minor injuries and took her to Maidstone Hospital in Hermitage Lane.

It is believed she had suffered a medical episode before the collision.

There was one woman waiting at the bus stop, who suffered a small cut to her hand but did not require medical treatment.

The road remained open and traffic was not affected.
